Government gives two year extension to construction work related to Polavaram multipurpose project in Andhra Pradesh

construction works related to Polavaram Multipurpose Project. Informing the media in New Delhi the Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shri Prakash Javadekar said that today the order has been signed and ministry has allowed the construction works for two years. 

The Union Minister stressed that Polavaram project is very important to the people of Andhra Pradesh as it will irrigate nearly 3 lakh ha of land, generate hydel power with installed capacity of 960 MW and provide drinking water facilities to 540 enroute villages covering 25 lakh populations, particularly in Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and West Godavari and Krishna Districts.


Two day Meeting of Expert Working Group of Paris Pact Initiative of UNODC to be held in New Delhi on 27th and 28th June, 2019; Will provide an opportunity for Indian Agencies to understand the Updates on current threats posed by Illicit Financial Flows

The Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance is hosting a Meeting of Expert Working Group on Paris Pact Initiative on Illicit Financial Flows deriving from the trafficking of Opiates originating in Afghanistan. The Meeting consists of Sessions spread over two days on 27th and 28th  June, 2019 and is being organised with the support of United Nations Office on Drugs & Crimes (UNODC). The Meeting will be inaugurated by the Additional Secretary, Revenue Mr. Anil Kumar Jha and will be attended by the representatives of the Member Countries of Paris Pact, Regional Representatives of UNODC and Senior Officers of the Indian agencies like DRI, ED and NCB involved in countering the money laundering/illicit financial flows related to drug trafficking.


Shri Nitin Gadkari to Inaugurate International Convention in New Delhi to Mark International Msme Day

The Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises is organizing an international  conventionon the theme “Indian MSMEs, Global Aspirations” in New Delhi to observe the International MSME Day tomorrow.  Further, as part of continued celebrations, the second edition of the International SME Convention 2019 will be held from 28th - 29th June .

The convention will be inaugurated by Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for MSME and Road Transport & Highways at Hotel Eros. Shri Pratap Sarangi, MoS for MSME and Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries will also be present on the occasion.


WAPCOS celebrates Golden Jubilee

Union Minister for Jal Shakti Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawatwas the Chief Guest at the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of WAPCOS here and said that WAPCOS is an important organization, which had not only taken path breaking developmental activities, but also came forward in a big way to take up challenging social issues. He said, from conceptualization to completion is the motto of WAPCOS.


WAPCOS, which was incorporated as Public Sector Enterprise in 1969 by the Government of India celebrated its Golden Jubilee today at Siri Fort, New Delhi in a gala manner. In commemoration of this historic occasion, the Company organized Golden Jubilee Celebrations with a themetitled “Transcending Boundaries- Touching Lives”. Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Shri Rattan Lal Kataria was the Guest of Honour at the event.


NTPC-PGCIL joint venture to focus on improving efficiency of distribution utilities

National Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (NEDCL) — the newly- formed 50:50 joint venture between NTPC and PowerGrid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) — will enter the electricity distribution business on a pan-India basis.

But, it will not become a distribution utility (DISCOM) like Tamil Nadu Generation & Distribution Corporation Ltd or Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd. Instead this joint venture will have a character similar to other such ventures such as Energy Efficiency Services Ltd and Petronet LNG that operate as profit-focussed entities


NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant gets two-year extension

The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has extended the tenure of NITI Aayog’s Chief Executive Officer, Amitabh Kant, by another two years.

He was appointed as the CEO of the government think-tank on February 17, 2016, for a fixed two-year term.

Kant was later given an extension till June 30, 2019. His term will now come to an end on June 30, 2021.

A Kerala-cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1980 batch, his last posting before taking charge as the NITI Aayog CEO was the Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion.



 K Natarajan to be the new director general of Indian Coast Guard

Krishnaswamy Natarajan appointed as the next director general of Indian Coast Guard.  He replaces Rajendra Singh who is retiring after three and a half years of service. K. Natarajan joined the Coast Guard on January 18, 1984. He holds a Masters Degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from Madras University. He held various important command and staff appointments, both afloat and ashore. The flag officer commanded all classes of ICG ships namely Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel (AOPV) Sangram, Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) Veera, Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) Kanaklata Barua and Inshore Patrol Vessel (IPV) Chandbibi.


Micro, Small and Medium sized Enterprises Day is celebrated on 27 June

United Nations observe 27 June as the Micro, Small and Medium sized Enterprises Day.
Micro, small and Medium-sized businesses celebrated this day in recognition of their work in local and global economies. These enterprises, which generally employ fewer than 250 persons are the backbone of most economies worldwide. International Trade Center, United Nations launch its flagship report: “The SME Competitiveness Outlook 2019: Big money for small businesses”.

The General Assembly invites all Member States, organizations of the United Nations system and other international and regional organizations. It includes non-governmental organizations, academia, individuals and other relevant stakeholders to observe the Day in an appropriate manner and in accordance with national priorities.

Max Bupa come up with a slew of innovative offerings, including a Cancer cover at a nominal premium  A HospiCash product for MobiKwik’s vast customer base.
Max Bupa’s HospiCash product provides for a pre-defined daily allowance on the basis of number of days of hospitalisation irrespective of the actual expense incurred by the customer. HospiCash will offer ₹500 per day hospital allowance for up to 30 days in a year.


Lok Sabha passed the Special Economic Zones (Amendment) Bill, 2019

The Lok Sabha passed the Special Economic Zones (Amendment) Bill, 2019 on 26 June. The amendment of sub-section (v) of Section 2 of the SEZ Act, 2005 will make a trust or any entity notified by the Central government eligible for consideration of grant of permission to set up a unit in special economic zones. The Bill aims at improving and encouraging more investments and introducing features including single-window clearance and to ease imports and exports.


MoRTH plans to introduce Universal smart card driving licences to curb fake or bogus licenses

The government plans to introduce Universal smart card driving licences. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has decided to modify the current format of driving licenses. It aims to curb fake or bogus licenses. 

Smart card driving licences:
The smart card driving licences will be a laminated card without chip or smart card type driving licences and which will include nationwide standardised format of placement of Information, standardization of fonts etc. All of the information of an individual is stored electronically. The biometric data of an individual is computerised and can be accessed by RTOs / ARTOs via their office servers. For this purpose, RTOs (Regional Transport Offices) should issue a uniform format of driving licenses across nation. The biometric data provided by the applicant will include details such as blood group, a scan on their retina, fingerprints and body marks, etc. This information will be stored in the RTO / ARTO office server and will also be sent to the head office of each state’s transport department.


Malayalam film 'Veyilmarangal' won an award at Shanghai International film festival

At the 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival, Director Bijukumar Damodaran received the Outstanding Artistic Achievement Award for the film, Veyil Marangal (Trees Under the Sun).
This is for the first Indian film to win a major award at the festival.
The film is one among the 3,964 entries submitted from 112 countries in the prestigious Golden Goblet Award competition.  The jury chairperson at the Fest was the Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan. 




Head of Amazon India, Amit Agarwal appointed as the Chairman of IAMAI

Amit Agarwal, Amazon India Senior Vice-President and Country Head named as the new Chairman of Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).
He succeeds Rajan Anandan He was the former Google India Managing Director (MD).
Dhruv Shringi, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Yatra appointed as the Vice Chairman of IAMA.


RBI launched Complaint Management System to facilitate grievance redressal process

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched Complaint Management System (CMS), on its website for facilitating RBI's grievance redressal process and also to improve customer experience in timely redressal of grievances.

Complaint Management System (CMS):
CMS is a software application launched by RBI for lodging complaints against any regulated entity with public interface such as commercial banks, urban cooperative banks (UCBs), Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs). CMS is also provided with various dashboards which will help RBI to effectively track progress in redressal of complaints.
