RBI has its Central Office (CO) in Mumbai and then it has Regional Officers (ROs) at 31 cities. Some departments are only in the Central Office while some departments are both at the CO and ROs. Some prominent departments are:
Monetary Policy Department - Framing monetary policy and conducting related research .
Department of Banking Supervision - Monitoring of commercial banks (PSBs, Private banks, Foreign banks, etc)
Department of Banking Regulation- Policy making for regulation of commercial banks (PSBs, Private banks, Foreign banks, etc)
Department of Currency Management - Issuance of currency notes and coins
Department of Economic Policy and Research - For research on banking and macroeconomics
Department of External Investment and Operations - Investment of foreign exchange reserve of the country
Department of Government and Bank Accounts -Banker to Government and banker to bank
Department of Non-Banking Supervision - Monitoring of NBFCs
Department of Non-Banking Regulation- Policy making for regulation of NBFCs
Department of Payment and Settlement Systems- Policy, regulation and monitoring of all payments and settlements
Financial Inclusion and Development Department - For developmental work and financial inclusion initiatives
Financial Markets Regulation Department
Financial Markets Operation Department
Human Resource Management Department - For managing HR policies of employees of the RBI
