Government Scheme : JAL JEEVAN MISSION

PM Narendra Modi has started a new Jal Shakti Ministry and is going to launch Nal Se Jal Scheme pan India. This scheme under Jal Jivan Mission aims to provide adequate water supply to all households and to conserve water sources. The central government has set a target to provide water to each family till FY 2024. In the first tenure, NDA govt. had laid emphasis on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to promote cleaning.

Water scarcity is a major problem in India and is spreading day by day as most of the families are facing acute shortage of water. So, Modi led NDA govt. is planning to focus on providing water to each and every household through taps.

The first task for the Jal Shakti Ministry is to conserve water resources. For this purpose, the central govt. will take help of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). Previously to preserve water resources, various Indian and Israeli officials have already met in the past few months.

Objective:

To ensure HarGharJal (piped water supply) to all rural households by 2024 under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Executing agency:

Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Jal Shakti Mantralaya.

Strategy:

1)This Mission will focus on integrated demand and supply side management of water at the local level, including creation of local infrastructure for source sustainability like rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge and management of household wastewater for reuse in agriculture.

2)The  Mission will converge with other Central and State Government Schemes to achieve its objectives of sustainable water supply management across the country.

Coverage:

Government has identified 1592 Blocks which are critical and over exploited, spread across 256 Districts for the Jal Shakti Abhiyan.

Funding:

Besides using funds available under various Schemes, the Government will also explore possibility of using additional funds available under the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) for this purpose.
